BTSE's COO Jeff Mei has cautioned that Bitcoin might decline to $70,000 and Ethereum to $2,400 if the Federal Reserve maintains interest rates in the first quarter of 2026. This follows the Fed's recent shift from quantitative tightening to regular monthly purchases of $40 billion in Treasuries, which could bolster risk assets if continued.
Despite the potential downside, Mei also forecasts a bullish scenario where Bitcoin could rise to between $92,000 and $98,000, with Ethereum reaching $3,600. He highlights the potential for altcoins to benefit from Layer 2 scaling solutions and DeFi expansion. Additionally, over $5 billion in ETF inflows and institutional buying are expected to support the market rally.
