Bharti Airtel has secured $1 billion in funding to expand its AI-driven data center operations through its subsidiary, Nxtra Data Limited. The investment comes from private equity firms Alpha Wave Global, Carlyle, and Anchorage Capital, with contributions of $435 million, $240 million, and $35 million respectively, pending regulatory approval. Airtel will provide the remaining funds. Nxtra, headquartered in New Delhi, operates 14 large core data centers and over 120 edge facilities. It is expanding with AI-ready campuses in Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata, and has partnered with Google to develop a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus. The funding will support Nxtra's goal to increase its capacity from 300 MW to 1 GW, aiming for a 25% market share in the coming years.
