BGD Labs, a key technology contributor to Aave, announced it will cease its technical contributions to the Aave DAO after its service contract expires on April 1st. This decision marks the end of nearly four years of collaboration. BGD Labs will continue to fulfill its current responsibilities, including work on Aave v3, Umbrella, and security maintenance, and will provide documentation to aid other teams in taking over its roles. The decision comes as Aave Labs assumes a more central role in the development of Aave v4, leading to concerns about decentralized governance and organizational structure. BGD Labs has also proposed offering optional security advisory services for two months post-contract, valued at $200,000, pending governance approval.
