Prometheus, the AI startup co-founded by Jeff Bezos, has raised $12 billion in a Series B funding round, bringing its valuation to $41 billion. The funding round saw participation from major investors including JPMorgan Chase, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, DST Global, and Arch Venture Partners. Prometheus, which has dropped "Project" from its original name, aims to develop "general AI engineers" to streamline the product development process from design to manufacturing.
Co-CEO Vik Bajaj highlighted the company's progress in transforming complex design and manufacturing challenges into AI-driven solutions. Bezos, who has taken on the CEO role for the first time since leaving Amazon in 2021, indicated potential acquisitions of manufacturing firms to enhance production capabilities using Prometheus's technology. The company, headquartered in San Francisco with teams in London and Zurich, employs around 150 people. While a product launch date is not set, an early version is expected soon.
