Basketball Fun, a digital trading card marketplace co-founded by NBA star Tristan Thompson, has announced its closure. Developed by Web3 sports startup Meet the People, the platform aimed to revolutionize sports card trading by minting digital collectibles on Coinbase's L2 network, Base. However, the team cited "unforeseen operational challenges" and a failure to achieve expected market growth as reasons for the shutdown. The platform has already disabled trading functions, and users are advised to withdraw their on-chain assets by the end of April 2026.
