Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network incubated by Coinbase, has announced the integration of Succinct's SP1 zkVM and TEE solutions to bolster cryptographic security. While Base will not transition to a full ZK Rollup architecture, the introduction of zero-knowledge proofs will replace the existing multi-day challenge period with cryptographic finality, reducing finality to approximately one day. This enhancement allows for lower trust assumptions when moving funds back to the Ethereum mainnet. Previously, Base operated on an Optimistic Rollup model, where transactions were presumed valid unless contested during a challenge period.
