The Bank of China has successfully completed its first cross-border central bank digital currency (CBDC) QR payment in Laos. This milestone was achieved through the Vientiane branch's integration with the People's Bank of China's digital RMB cross-border payment system. The system provides real-time exchange rates and efficient clearing, allowing local merchants to process QR payments without needing new equipment. Chinese tourists can now use digital RMB for payments via an app, with Lao businesses receiving funds instantly, enhancing the ease of cross-border transactions.
