Banco do Brasil invested $5 million in tokenized structured notes issued by Citi on Euroclear's D-FMI tokenization platform. The bank said the August 19 transaction was the first of its kind for a financial institution in Latin America.
The investment was made through Banco do Brasil's proprietary funds department using its own capital, not client funds. Citigroup issued the note through its Luxembourg entity, with its London branch acting as issuing and paying agent. The underlying reference asset was not disclosed.
