Baidu founder Robin Li has proposed a new metric, "Daily Active Agents" (DAA), to better measure the value of AI, moving beyond the industry's focus on token consumption. Speaking at the Create 2026 Baidu AI Developer Conference, Li argued that tokens represent cost rather than revenue and fail to capture the true output or value generated by AI. He suggested that DAA, akin to Daily Active Users (DAU) in the mobile internet era, would more accurately reflect AI's impact, as individuals and companies manage multiple agents, potentially surpassing the global population in scale. Li highlighted the shift in AI focus from models to applications, citing the success of OpenClaw as an example of an agent gaining mainstream traction. He emphasized that users prioritize task completion over model intelligence, marking a transition from first-generation chatbots to second-generation general-purpose agents. Li also noted that AI is creating "super individuals," where a single person, supported by numerous agents, becomes the smallest unit of productivity, transforming organizational management dynamics.
