Aztec has launched its v5 upgrade on its decentralized Layer 2 platform, introducing a fully private transaction execution environment. This upgrade allows users to generate zero-knowledge proofs locally on mobile devices and laptops, significantly enhancing privacy and efficiency. The v5 upgrade, approved by token governance and executed on-chain, more than doubles the speed of proof generation for private transactions and reduces fees by approximately 50%. Additionally, Ethereum rollup proof verification costs are cut by around 40%, with fully private transfers costing less than $0.05 and block times reduced to 6 seconds. The v5 upgrade supports private yield earning on Aave through Nyx, with Shield and TRAIN providing privacy bridges to Ethereum. Aztec's advancements in privacy technology have been recognized by Vitalik Buterin, who classified it as a "Stage 2" decentralization Layer 2 solution.
