Aztec has launched a four-layer technology stack designed to provide end-to-end programmable privacy on Ethereum through its decentralized layer 2 network. Central to this innovation is the Noir programming language, which allows developers to create zero-knowledge programs without needing cryptographic expertise. Privacy is enabled by default, with over 3,500 active sequencers currently operating on Aztec's Alpha network, where sequencer and prover roles are fully permissionless.
The Aztec Stack is organized into four layers: Noir, a domain-specific language for zero-knowledge circuits; smart contracts using the Aztec.nr framework for managing public and private states; the network itself, which processes private functions in a secure environment; and Ethereum, serving as the settlement layer. This architecture supports private transactions and public state management, with Noir already being adopted by projects on platforms like Base, Scroll, and Starknet.
