Amazon Web Services said it will acquire Amsterdam-based DuckLabs, the team behind the open-source analytical database DuckDB, with the transaction expected to close in early September 2026. DuckLabs will remain in Amsterdam, and founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt will continue to lead the technical direction. AWS said the deal does not include the DuckDB open-source project, which will remain under the independent DuckDB Foundation and continue to be distributed as free open-source software under the MIT license. DuckDB, DuckLake, and Quack will not be affected. The companies said they have been collaborating since 2024.
