AUSTRAC canceled, suspended, or refused to renew registrations for 45 cryptocurrency and remittance institutions over the past year as it intensified scrutiny of high-risk payment businesses. The targeted firms included inactive or insolvent registrants, entities lacking operational capacity, institutions that failed to report significant changes, and businesses with incorrect registration information or major money laundering and terrorist financing risks. AUSTRAC cited BA Digital Ventures, operating as GetCoins, whose virtual asset registration was canceled in June following customer complaints and suspected exploitation by organized crypto investment scams. The agency did not publish the full list of 45 institutions, but public records show recent actions involving GetCoins, Cryptolink, Self Custody, Jam Xchange, and Coinsec Australia. AUSTRAC has also opened an investigation into Western Union and suspended Cryptolink's crypto ATM network.
