Augur, a pioneering decentralized prediction market protocol, is set to conduct an 'algorithmic fork' to test its dispute resolution system. This initiative, described as crypto's first of its kind, is spearheaded by Ethereum developer Micah Zoltu, who has amassed 200,000 REP tokens via a crowdsourcing contract to fund the fork. The process simulates an attack on the protocol to eliminate passive token holders and reinforce the active nature of REP tokens. Following the announcement, REP tokens surged over 50% within a week, hitting multi-month highs, although they remain significantly below their 2016 peak. The fork will allow a 60-day period for token holders to migrate their REP to the version they believe accurately represents reality. The Lituus Foundation endorses the test but will not engage in the fork itself.
