arXiv, the preprint repository, has announced a ban on AI-generated review and position papers in the computer science category unless they have undergone peer review. This decision, effective October 31, comes in response to a significant increase in submissions of AI-generated survey papers, which moderators have criticized as merely annotated bibliographies. The platform now requires authors to provide proof of peer review, such as journal references and DOIs, to manage the overwhelming volume of submissions. The policy change aims to maintain the quality of submissions and currently applies only to the computer science category. However, arXiv has indicated that the rule may extend to other categories if similar issues with AI-generated content arise.
