Anza said it is gradually removing floating-point operations from the Solana core protocol to reduce the risk of consensus divergence. The first change, SIMD-0391, was activated on mainnet Beta in epoch 1026 and replaces floating-point operations in the Stake Program’s warmup and cooldown logic, as well as validator clients, with fixed-point operations.
A second proposal, SIMD-0607, is now under review and targets the runtime by removing floating-point operations from inflation reward and rent calculation paths. Anza said floating-point operations can produce different rounding outcomes across hardware, validator clients, and compilers, creating potential network liveness and consensus risks. The team said it will continue removing floating-point operations from other parts of the protocol.
