The firm aims to leverage South Korea's competitive edge in technology and market acceptance in sectors like AI and encryption. Initially, the Seoul office will concentrate on the crypto space, with plans to broaden its focus over time. Park Sung-mo, appointed as Head of Crypto GTM for Asia Pacific, will lead the Seoul operations. With experience from Naver and the Monad Foundation, Park will assist a16z portfolio companies in penetrating the Korean and broader Asian markets. a16z plans to support company growth through talent recruitment, business development, and policy cooperation, beyond mere investment.
