AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron publicly attacked Robinhood’s tokenized stock initiative, saying the AMC-linked token and similar products tied to more than 190 other companies were not registered under U.S. securities laws. In a post on X, Aron called the plan “despicable, outrageous, and repugnant,” said AMC has no involvement, and stated the company will never condone it.
Aron said he will ask outside securities counsel to investigate immediately. Citing disclosures on Robinhood’s website, he said the stock tokens may not be issued, sold, or delivered within the United States or to U.S. persons, and can only be transferred outside the United States to non-U.S. persons. The offering also faces restrictions in jurisdictions including Canada, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, while the issuer is listed as Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited, registered in Jersey.
