London-based AI writing startup Marker has raised $13 million in a seed funding round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Local Globe. The company, co-founded by DeepMind’s former head of creative, has attracted notable angel investors including Writely co-founder Steve Newman, Slack co-founder Cal Henderson, and Hugging Face’s Thomas Wolf. Marker, which recently emerged from stealth, offers a platform used for creating various written content such as blog posts, newsletters, and business documents.
Marker CEO Steinback emphasized the importance of maintaining the quality of writing amidst growing concerns over "AI slop." He stated, "We are at a pivotal moment where people can choose the future of writing; I believe people will pick solutions that honor the craft of writing, not the shoddy content that is deeply eroding what writing is all about."
