While the U.S. labor market faces a slowdown with a 4.3% unemployment rate, AI job postings have surged by over 130% year-over-year. Software development roles, in particular, have seen a 14% increase, with 47% of these positions requiring AI skills. Gudell highlights that AI is reshaping job roles rather than replacing them entirely. Companies are offering higher salaries for AI-related skills, creating a wage premium. Despite some layoffs in sectors like information technology, AI's impact is more about transforming job content. Indeed's data suggests that while AI can significantly alter 26% of jobs, less than 1% of job skills can be fully automated without human input.
