CertiK co-founder and CEO Ronghui Gu has highlighted the growing imbalance in DeFi security due to AI advancements, which make it easier for attackers to identify vulnerabilities and replicate attack strategies. In April 2026, only three days were free of hacking incidents, with DeFi protocols losing over $690 million in a single month. Excluding the Bybit incident, this marks the highest monthly loss since March 2022. Gu noted that as smart contract auditing standards improve, attackers are increasingly targeting supply chain, operational security, and infrastructure layers. He cited incidents involving Drift Protocol and Kelp DAO as examples of these emerging threats. Additionally, Gu warned that legal disputes arising from asset freezes, such as those involving Arbitrum, could complicate future efforts to coordinate the freezing and recovery of stolen assets.
