Aave founder Stani Kulechov has projected that decentralized finance (DeFi) could benefit from $50 trillion in tokenized assets by 2050. Kulechov highlighted the potential of tokenizing "abundant assets" like solar energy, which could significantly expand on-chain collateral options.
Currently, nearly $25 billion in real-world assets, including US Treasury bonds, stocks, and real estate, have been tokenized, according to RWA.xyz. Kulechov anticipates that while scarce assets will continue to grow, the most substantial impact will come from tokenizing abundant resources, with solar energy alone potentially contributing $15-30 trillion.
