a16z crypto, the cryptocurrency division of Andreessen Horowitz, has successfully closed its fifth fund, securing $2.2 billion. This marks a decrease from the firm's previous record-setting fourth fund, which raised $4.5 billion in 2022. Paul Cafiero, communications partner at a16z crypto, explained that the decision to reduce fund size aligns with the firm's strategy to adapt to the rapidly changing crypto environment through shorter fundraising cycles. The firm's earlier funds include $2.2 billion for the third fund in 2021, $515 million for the second in 2020, and $350 million for the inaugural fund in 2018.
