The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has mandated that EU crypto-asset service providers cease offering services involving non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins. The directive covers trading, exchange, custody, transfers, and investment advice, requiring firms to prevent clients from purchasing or increasing holdings in these assets.
Providers must wind down existing exposures within three months, with a final deadline of January 8, 2027. During this transition period, only limited exit services such as selling, exchanging, and withdrawals will be permitted to facilitate client offboarding.
