BlackRock said its $60 billion bitcoin fund is set to keep expanding as bitcoin climbed above $80,000 for the first time since May. Robbie Mitchnick, head of digital assets at BlackRock, said growth will continue as the firm broadens access, while the asset manager has reportedly reduced the minimum bitcoin needed for a direct swap into its IBIT fund to $1 million from $25 million. The change allows investors to exchange bitcoin for ETF shares without first selling their holdings. BlackRock’s IBIT now holds more than 765,000 bitcoin on behalf of investors and remains the fastest ETF to reach key asset milestones. The update came as the 13 U.S. bitcoin ETFs posted their strongest weekly inflows in 10 months, helping support bitcoin’s roughly 23% rally this week. BlackRock also pointed to rising concerns around self-custody risks, including hardware wallet attacks and physical threats, as a factor driving some investors toward ETF-based exposure.
