South Korea's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has imposed a fine of 36.8 billion won (approximately $24.6 million) on cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb for anti-money laundering (AML) violations. The FIU identified around 6.65 million violations, including approximately 3.55 million related to failure in executing Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols and about 3.04 million involving failure to block restricted transactions.
In addition to the fine, the FIU has ordered a six-month partial business suspension for Bithumb, affecting only new user registrations. Existing users will continue to have access to trading and fund transfers without interruption.
