Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis has reintroduced a proposal to exempt small cryptocurrency transactions from taxation amid discussions on the digital asset market structure bill. The proposal suggests a $300 tax exemption for crypto transactions, allowing users to make payments without incurring capital gains tax. This initiative, which Lummis first introduced in July 2025, also includes an annual cap of $5,000. Lummis aims to establish a balance between taxing Bitcoin transactions and using them as a medium of exchange akin to the US dollar. However, the proposal has yet to gain support from her Democratic colleagues in the Senate.
