Mitchell Amador, CEO of Web3 security platform Immunefi, revealed that nearly 80% of crypto projects that experience major hacks fail to fully recover. The primary issues are operational and trust failures rather than the initial financial losses. Many protocols become paralyzed upon discovering an exploit, exacerbating losses due to the absence of contingency plans.
In 2025, crypto-related hacks resulted in $3.4 billion in total losses, marking the highest level since 2022. Notably, three major incidents, including a $1.4 billion hack on Bybit, accounted for 69% of these losses by early December.
