A total of 124 cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are currently awaiting regulatory approval, highlighting growing institutional interest in the sector. According to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, Bitcoin leads with 21 proposed funds, followed by mixed-asset funds (15), XRP (10), Solana (9), and Ethereum (7). The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) remains cautious, citing concerns over custody and market manipulation. The approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2024 set a precedent, but the regulatory process for other cryptocurrency assets remains stringent. If these ETFs receive approval, they could attract significant institutional capital and enhance retail investor access, potentially shifting the market's fear and greed index with increased participation.
