What Is aPriori (APR)? The Renamed Capricorn DeFi Token

Key Points

What is aPriori (APR)? The Monad DeFi token renamed Capricorn set a record-low close in mid-October 2026 ahead of a 92.8 million APR cliff.

aPriori (APR) is the token of Capricorn, a Monad DeFi project that dropped the aPriori name in July 2026, and it closed mid-October 2026 at a record-low $0.04039. Under the project's own schedule, a one-year vesting cliff then releases 92.8 million APR in late October 2026, a third of the coins in circulation.

APR closed lower on 15 of the 17 days from its late-September close to its mid-October close. That mid-October close was the lowest of its 360 daily closes since trading began in October 2025 and 71.22% under the late-September close of $0.1403. Its two sharpest one-day drops of that slide came on days when bitcoin and ether both rose.

What Is aPriori, Renamed Capricorn?

Capricorn is a DeFi team building on Monad, the parallelized EVM blockchain, and APR is its token. The team traded as aPriori until late July 2026, when it bought Capricorn DEX and took its name. The announcement told holders that "All products stay live. $$APR stays$$APR."

The old name survived the rename in the places traders check first. The on-chain name still reads "aPriori" on every chain, and CoinMarketCap lists the coin as Capricorn APR under an apriori web address.

Anyone who collected aPriori crypto in the October 2025 airdrop and kept it holds Capricorn's APR, since the ticker and the contract addresses stayed the same.

The searches arrived right after APR's record-low mid-October close, with its first vesting cliff in view. The table sets APR's fall from late September against Phemex closes for the same days. Monad's own token MON fell 31.71% on Phemex spot over the same closes, so APR's fall ran more than twice as deep as its home chain's.

ENAUSDT

+2.70%, +1.85%

APR fell 31.44% in one day in early October and 26.83% in another in mid-October, each on its previous close. Every other market in the table closed higher on both days.

Neither drop has a dated announcement behind it in the project's docs or in its Substack, whose last post dates from October 2025. The project's X posts on the rename and the buyback came months earlier, and a web search of both days found no dated news story.

The cliff is the other half of the story. The launch post gives Early Backers and Core Contributors a one-year cliff, and 12 months after the October 2025 launch the schedule releases 33% of the first pool and 25% of the second. That's 52.8 million plus 40 million APR, a total of 92.8 million and 33.40% of the 277.8 million APR in circulation at the mid-October close.

The docs give no calendar day for the release. A cliff holds a pool back for a fixed term and then frees a block at once, the standard shape of crypto vesting and cliffs.

What Is APR Crypto Coin?

The APR crypto coin is Capricorn's token, with a total supply of 1 billion minted on Ethereum. It shares only its three letters with the annual percentage rate, the yield measure compared in APR vs APY in crypto.

The APR token on Ethereum is the original. Its contract is an upgradeable proxy, and coins bridged to other chains stay locked in a LayerZero adapter on Ethereum while matching copies circulate on BNB Chain and Monad.

Those copies add nothing to the 1 billion total. The adapter held 454.7 million APR in mid-October 2026, and the BNB Chain copy's 440.6 million plus the Monad copy's 14.11 million match it exactly.

How Does Capricorn Work?

Capricorn runs two products. The first is Capricorn Exchange, a DEX whose flagship pools price swaps from oracle feeds that refresh every block. The Capricorn Exchange docs call these Proactive AMM pools, or PAMM pools for short.

A PAMM pool quotes around an outside fair price, where a standard pool prices from its own balance of assets. For longer-tail pairs the exchange runs concentrated pools, a version of the liquidity pool in which providers place funds inside a chosen price range.

The second product is aprMON, a liquid staking token for MON. Stakers deposit MON into a vault that spreads it across a curated set of validators. Each token then gains value as staking and MEV rewards build up, and the number held in a wallet stays fixed.

Capricorn's docs give APR no defined job in either product. The launch post gives it a "central role in network coordination and on-chain participation" and sets no fee share or vote for holders. With no protocol revenue routed to it in the docs, the token trades on the team's plans.

APR Tokenomics

The token launch post in Capricorn's docs splits the 1 billion APR seven ways.

Pool
Share
Release schedule
Early Backers
16%
33% at 12 months, then quarterly over 24 months
Core Contributors
16%
25% at 12 months, then quarterly over 36 months
Foundation
16%
10% at launch, then quarterly over 4 years
Community Incentives
22%
10% at launch, then quarterly over 4 years
Ecosystem Growth
17%
10% at launch, then quarterly over 4 years
Genesis Airdrop
12%
No vesting set in the docs
Liquidity
1%
100% at launch, per the Substack post

The 12% Genesis Airdrop went to early users and to MadLads and Moonbirds NFT holders among others, the reward-the-community logic behind why projects airdrop crypto.

Circulating supply stood at 277.8 million APR at the mid-October close, or 27.78% of the total, on both the project's own supply figure and CoinMarketCap. The schedule produces the same number.

Method: the project's figure counts the airdrop and liquidity pools in full from launch, plus 10% each of the Foundation, Community Incentives and Ecosystem Growth pools. That made 185 million APR on day one, and the rest of those three pools vests in 16 quarterly tranches of 30.94 million. CoinMarketCap's supply figure started at the same 185 million and has risen in three steps of exactly that size.

On 12 August 2026 the project said on X that it had "repurchased 5.3% of the total $APR token supply from early investors", or about 53 million APR. It added that the coins "will be redirected to support community incentives and ecosystem expansion", a plan the post gives no date for. The Ethereum contract's total still reads exactly 1 billion, so the buyback burned nothing.

The day of the post, APR closed at $0.6044, up 192.7% on the previous close of $0.2065 and the highest of its 360 daily closes. By 15 August it closed at $0.1614, which put it 68.45% under the 14 August close of $0.5116.

How to Buy APR Safely

A renamed token with a common three-letter ticker is easy to buy by mistake, so the contract address is the only safe search.

  1. Search by contract and never by ticker, because APR also matches APRO (AT) and Capricorn's own aprMON staking token. A search for Capricorn crypto also turns up a CAPRICORN memecoin with no tie to this project.

  2. On Ethereum, use the canonical contract 0x5A9610919f5e81183823A2be4Bd1BeB2B4da2a20, whose on-chain symbol reads APR.

  3. On BNB Chain the bridged copy is 0x299AD4299Da5b2b93Fba4c96967B040C7F611099, and on Monad the bridged copy is 0x0a332311633c0625f63cfc51ee33fc49826e0a3c.

  4. Check a pool's depth before a large order, because CoinMarketCap counted about $3.42 million of APR volume across all venues on the day of the mid-October close.

  5. Expect no APR market on Phemex, which listed an APRUSDT perpetual in late October 2025 and delisted it in early June 2026. APR never had a Phemex spot pair.

Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of aPriori?

The Late-October Cliff

The cliff adds 92.8 million APR to the circulating supply of a token that set its lowest close in mid-October, and two readings could make it bigger or smaller.

If the fourth quarterly tranche of the other pools lands the same day, the release grows to 123.7 million APR, or 44.54% of circulating supply. If the 53 million repurchased coins came out of the Early Backers pool and skip the cliff, it shrinks to 75.31 million, or 27.11%. Neither reading appears in the project's docs or in its X post on the buyback.

Admin Keys on the Token and the Exchange

The Ethereum token runs behind an ERC-1967 upgradeable proxy, so whoever controls its admin address can replace the code that governs balances and transfers. The exchange's pricing engine is "proprietary, closed-source", and the docs add that "The engine address can be rotated by admin subject to a version guard".

Unlabeled Safes

Three Safe multisig wallets held 401.2 million APR between them in mid-October 2026, or 40.12% of supply, and each needs four signatures to move funds. The largest held exactly 160 million, the size of each cliff pool, and the other two held 136.7 million and 104.5 million. No Etherscan name tag says who controls any of them.

The single biggest Ethereum address belongs to the LayerZero bridge adapter, whose coins back the bridged copies on other chains.

Is aPriori a Good Investment?

APR had lost 94.50% of its value by the mid-October close, measured from its intraday high of $0.7350 on 24 October 2025. The August buyback spike gave back all of its gain within three days.

The tokenomics are the weak point here. What would change the picture is public, and the late-October cliff will show how much of the 92.8 million APR reaches the market. A docs update that ties APR to exchange fees would hand holders something to price beyond the team's plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is aPriori coin?

It's the token behind Capricorn, a DeFi team on Monad that runs a decentralized exchange and a MON staking token. The team dropped its old name in late July 2026 and kept the APR ticker.

Is aPriori a good investment?

APR closed mid-October 2026 at $0.04039, 94.50% under its October 2025 high, and its docs route no protocol revenue to holders. A cliff of 92.8 million APR follows in late October 2026, so those three facts frame any position.

When is the next APR token unlock?

The one-year cliff for Early Backers and Core Contributors falls in late October 2026, with no exact day in the docs. It releases 92.8 million APR, about a third of the 277.8 million in circulation at the mid-October close.

Is Capricorn APR the same token as aPriori?

Yes. The project took the Capricorn name in late July 2026 after buying Capricorn DEX, and the APR contract addresses on Ethereum, BNB Chain and Monad stayed the same.

Can you trade APR on Phemex?

No. The APRUSDT perpetual was delisted from Phemex in early June 2026, and APR never had a Phemex spot pair, so it has no live market there.

Bottom Line

People searching the old name in mid-October 2026 found a renamed token at its lowest close, with its largest scheduled supply release since launch day due in late October. The late-October cliff matters more than the rename, and the three unlabeled Safes are the addresses to watch when it lands.
