What Is Oraichain (ORAI)? The AI Layer 1 Token Explained

Key Points

What is Oraichain? A layer 1 for AI data and its ORAI token. How far ORAI jumped, what the August exploit did to supply and how to buy it safely.

Oraichain (ORAI) is a layer 1 blockchain built for AI data and oracle services, and ORAI is the token behind its fees, staking and votes. ORAI jumped about 59% in a single day in early November 2026. The chain restarted after an August 2026 exploit halted it for over two days, but we'd treat ORAI as a repair job.

That exploit pushed the ORAI supply recorded on its chain to about 1.53 billion, and the clean-up didn't bring it all the way back. Oraichain's chain counted about 15.5 million ORAI before the August 2026 exploit and about 19.6 million after the clean-up. By the early-November close its count stood at about 19.9 million, above the roughly 19.8 million max supply listed in its docs.

What Is Oraichain?

Oraichain is a public blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, the toolkit behind many independent chains. It's a layer 1 blockchain, so it runs its own network and validators with no parent chain underneath. Its system overview describes a network where "smart contracts can also request data securely from AI APIs", and its site dates the project to 2020.

The Oraichain crypto you'll see on price trackers is ORAI. Its token page says you need it for transaction fees and for staking, and that protocol upgrades go to a vote of token holders.

ORA Coin and Orochi Network are other projects with similar names, so check the ticker before you buy anything.

ORAI closed at about $0.54 in early November 2026, up from about $0.34 the day before. That was a 59.3% rise on CoinMarketCap's closes and about 60% on CoinGecko's, after a flat day.

Over the same closes the median of 139 listed Phemex perpetual futures rose about 0.3%, with 95 of them higher. So the jump was ORAI's own.

Volume on CoinMarketCap reached about $660,000, nearly four times its median of the previous 30 days. That's a busy day for ORAI and still a small sum.

Oraichain's own channels give no dated cause. Its official Telegram announcements and on-chain governance name nothing behind the jump, and neither do its docs or website. Its Medium pages last published in April 2026, and its X account isn't part of that list.

Treat that close as a past price and check the live one before you act on it.

How Does Oraichain Work?

A smart contract can't browse the web, so blockchain oracles carry outside data onto the chain for it. Oraichain points that idea at AI models. According to its docs, the network picks a willing validator at random when a request comes in. That validator tests the AI provider, then fetches the answer and writes it to the chain. The request's fee pays the parties involved.

Underneath sits delegated proof of stake, where validators run the network and ORAI holders can stake through them for a share of the rewards. The chain runs contracts in the Cosmos format (CosmWasm) or the Ethereum one (EVM). The chain links out to other networks over IBC, the standard Cosmos chains use to talk to each other.

The product work has moved toward trading. In December 2025 token holders passed Proposal 319, under which "ORAI becomes the single unified token for the entire ecosystem". The same vote cancelled the listing of a second token called LFG and turned it into a product brand under Oraichain Quant Terminal.

That terminal is the current product line, with vaults that take USDC deposits for trading strategies and a page for staking ORAI. So you're looking at an AI oracle chain whose newest product is a trading tool, and you should judge it as both.

Is Oraichain Dead?

No. The chain kept producing blocks after its August halt, with 29 bonded validators in the set, and its latest governance votes passed in September 2026. The price is a different story, with ORAI closing far under its 2021 high.

The exploit started late on 8 August 2026 by the chain's own block times, and the security firm SafeEdges dates it 9 August. Its report describes a vulnerability in Oraichain's "EVM cross-chain transfer pathway" that enabled unauthorised ORAI minting.

In about eight minutes the chain's supply ledger went from about 15.5 million ORAI to about 1.53 billion, roughly 98 times as many. Blocks kept coming for about four and a half hours. Then the network halted, and it came back on 11 August with about 19.6 million counted.

The restart left the count about 4 million above its pre-exploit level.

SafeEdges' August report puts the loss at "$0 realised" and says the unauthorised balances were burned. The chain shows a total, not what makes it up, so weigh that $0 against the higher count. Readings from the restart to the close show no step down.

Two September votes tightened things. Proposal 327 made contract uploads permissioned "to reduce incident risk". Proposal 330 shipped a security patch and said "the source code for this specific patch is not public. Only a prebuilt binary is published". Neither proposal's text names the August exploit, so don't assume the link.

Proposal 330 promised full technical details after the upgrade, and Oraichain's docs and Medium pages carry no post-mortem. For a project whose site calls its core technology "completely open-source", that's a lot to take on trust.

The validator set is also thinner than 29 sounds. Three validators held more than a third of the staked ORAI, enough to stall the chain. Eight held more than two-thirds, enough to confirm blocks alone.

So the chain is alive, and the repair is only partly visible from outside.

Oraichain Tokenomics

Supply is where ORAI's crypto tokenomics get hard to read, because the sources disagree.

What Is the Oraichain Token Total Supply?

The chain's own ledger counted about 19.88 million ORAI at the early-November close, and that's the figure we'd trust for native ORAI, since validators agree on it. A count of all 313,193 holder addresses at that moment added up to the same total within a fraction of one ORAI.

That spread changes how big ORAI looks. The same close of about $0.54 gives a market cap of about $7.5 million on CoinMarketCap's count and about $12.9 million on the project's circulating count, 1.7 times as large.

The Ethereum and BNB Chain contracts each show an 86 million total, and most of it sits at a dead address, a burn wallet no one is known to control. So 86 million isn't live supply. The docs' supply table dates from August 2023, so their max may be out of date, though it's the ceiling they publish.

How Much New ORAI Gets Minted?

The mint rate sat at 7% a year, with its minimum and maximum set to the same figure. That came to about 1.39 million new ORAI a year, and the count passed the docs' max in early October 2026.

The mint settings hold no cap, and voters have moved the rate before, setting it to 10% in April 2025. Proposal 319 promised block rewards "without increasing max supply" and its text never stated that max.

Who Holds ORAI?

About 5.9 million ORAI was staked, or about 30% of the count. Among ordinary addresses, leaving out the chain's own system accounts, the top three held about 38% and the top ten about 56%. They're unlabelled, may be exchange or team wallets, and all ten are plain accounts with no lock or vesting on them.

Who Can Mint Each Form?

Each form of ORAI carries its own controls. Solana's mint authority is the one to watch, since whoever holds it can create more.

How to Buy ORAI Safely

If you're working out how to buy Oraichain safely, start with which ORAI you'd be holding, since at least four forms carry the same ticker.

  1. Check which form of ORAI you're buying before anything else. Native ORAI is the one that stakes and votes on Oraichain, and the rest are versions on other chains.

  2. Match the contract address to the docs, character by character. The ERC-20 contract is 0x4c11249814f11b9346808179cf06e71ac328c1b5, and the BEP-20 contract is 0xa325ad6d9c92b55a3fc5ad7e412b1518f96441c0. The docs leave out the Solana form, where CoinGecko lists the token's address as oraiyuR7hz6h7ApC56mb52CJjPZBB34USTjzaELoaPk.

  3. Match the deposit network to the one your platform names for ORAI. Tokens sent over the wrong network can be lost.

  4. Bridge only through the project's own route, which its site names as OBridge. August's flaw sat in a cross-chain path, so read how cross-chain bridges can fail before you move funds.

  5. Never connect a wallet to a claim page, however official it looks. A domain linked from the project's own homepage serves an airdrop page for another token.

ORAI has no row in Phemex's perpetual or spot product lists. The link below opens Phemex's futures page for other crypto markets. Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of ORAI?

One address against a thin market. The largest ordinary address held about 2.8 million ORAI, worth about $1.5 million at that $0.54 close. The median day in the month before the jump saw about $172,000 traded, so that single address held roughly nine days of volume.

A repair you can't inspect. Outsiders can't read the September patch, so you're relying on the team's word about it. Contract uploads were limited to two addresses, which gives attackers fewer ways in and puts control in fewer hands.

A young product carrying the story. The three vaults on the terminal's vault page were created in mid-October 2026, so their record runs to weeks. They take USDC deposits, so any demand for ORAI has to show up elsewhere, such as staking.

Dilution if you don't stake. New ORAI goes to validators and stakers, with a share for the community pool. An address that holds without staking sees its share of the count shrink by about 6.5% a year at a 7% mint. Stake, and you accept a 14-day wait to get out.

Is Oraichain a Good Investment?

We won't call that for you, and we make no price prediction here. ORAI is a small token with thin trading and an open supply question. The strongest point in its favour is that the chain survived a 98-fold mint and came back inside three days.

What would have to be true:

  • The chain's count steps down toward its pre-exploit level.

  • The full technical details that Proposal 330 promised reach the public.

  • Terminal and vault fees grow large enough to matter against about 1.39 million new ORAI a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who runs Oraichain?

Oraichain's docs name the Oraichain Foundation and Oraichain Labs. The Foundation's allocation funds research on the core protocols, and ORAI holders vote on upgrades and parameter changes.

Which ORAI token should I buy?

Buy only the form your platform supports, on the network it names, with the contract checked against the docs. Native ORAI on Oraichain is the form that stakes and votes.

Was Oraichain hacked?

Yes. An exploit in August 2026 let an attacker mint ORAI without authorisation and halted the chain for more than two days. SafeEdges recorded no realised loss, and the chain restarted with about 4 million more ORAI than before.

Bottom Line

Oraichain survived an exploit that multiplied its on-chain supply 98 times, and that deserves credit. What it hasn't given holders is one supply number that the chain, the docs and the trackers all share. Until those line up, any ORAI market cap rests on a choice of count. The chain's own figure is the one we'd watch first, ahead of the price.
