The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed to dismiss its lawsuit against cryptocurrency exchange Binance and its former CEO, Zhao Changpeng. A joint withdrawal agreement, signed by the SEC, Binance, and Zhao's legal team, was submitted to a federal court in Washington, D.C., citing policy considerations for the withdrawal. The lawsuit, initiated in 2023, accused Binance of operating without proper registration and misrepresenting trading controls. Previously, Binance admitted to violating the Bank Secrecy Act and paid a $4.3 billion fine. This move follows the SEC's recent trend of dropping cases against other crypto firms, including Coinbase and Uniswap, as part of its evolving enforcement strategy.
