Five members of an international cryptocurrency fraud ring have pleaded guilty to orchestrating a $36.9 million scheme that defrauded victims in the United States. The defendants, Joseph Wong, Yicheng Zhang, Jose Somarriba, Shengsheng He, and Jingliang Su, used social media, instant messaging, and dating apps to lure victims into investing in fraudulent cryptocurrency projects. The funds were funneled through shell companies and U.S. bank accounts, converted into Tether (USDT), and transferred to wallets in Cambodia. Zhang and Wong face up to 20 years in prison, while the others could receive up to five years.
