A massive data breach has exposed 16 billion login credentials from major online service providers, including Apple, Google, and Facebook, according to Cybernews researchers. The largest database contained 3.5 billion records, primarily leaked through unencrypted Elasticsearch or object storage instances. The compromised data includes access tokens, session cookies, and account metadata, posing a significant threat to cryptocurrency holders. Attackers could exploit these credentials for targeted account takeovers, particularly on platforms hosting crypto wallets or associated email accounts. The risk is heightened by some wallets allowing mnemonic backups to cloud services. Security experts urge users to update passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and avoid storing recovery phrases in insecure digital environments. The source of the data remains unidentified, though some databases may be linked to cybercrime groups.
