Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto have introduced Shelby, a new cloud-based storage network tailored for Web3 and decentralized applications. Shelby, announced on Tuesday, is a globally distributed platform that utilizes Aptos' high-throughput technology and is chain-agnostic, supporting Ethereum, Solana, and other major blockchains. The platform aims to provide developers with cloud-like speed and remote access for applications such as streaming video, AI, and decentralized physical infrastructure. Shelby enters a competitive market currently dominated by AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Aptos' engineering lead, Pranav Raval, emphasized Shelby's capability to deliver performance comparable to leading cloud services while enabling developers to maintain ownership and control at the protocol level. The launch addresses the growing global demand for data storage, with data center power demand projected to double by 2030, according to S&P Global.
