New Zealand's Ministry of Justice has announced plans to ban all 221 crypto ATMs in the country as part of a broader anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing reform. Associate Justice Minister Hon. Nicole McKee revealed the initiative on July 9, emphasizing the need to strengthen enforcement against serious financial crimes. The ban targets crypto ATMs, which are often used to convert illicit cash into digital assets, as a key measure in this strategy. The move is part of a comprehensive effort to align with international standards and curb illicit financial flows. In addition to the ATM ban, the government will impose a $5,000 limit on international cash transfers to prevent large, undetected money movements by criminal organizations. These reforms aim to enhance New Zealand's ability to combat financial crime effectively.
