Google has filed a lawsuit against the BadBox 2.0 botnet, which has compromised over 10 million Internet-of-Things (IoT) Android devices. The legal action was initiated in a New York federal court following the discovery of the botnet's activities by Google's cybersecurity team. BadBox 2.0, the largest botnet of IoT television devices, exploited uncertified Android devices to conduct ad fraud and other digital crimes. In response, Google has enhanced its security measures to block applications associated with the botnet. The cybersecurity firm HUMAN, a Google partner, revealed that BadBox 2.0 uses backdoors on low-cost devices to load fraud modules, enabling attacks such as ad fraud and DDoS attacks. Importantly, Android TV OS and Play Protect-certified devices were not affected by the botnet.
