Consensys has acquired Web3Auth, a wallet infrastructure provider, to enhance the user experience of its popular crypto wallet, MetaMask. Announced on June 3, the acquisition aims to simplify seed phrase management and introduce Web2 login options, making MetaMask more accessible to a broader audience. This strategic move is expected to expand MetaMask's reach, particularly in Asian markets, and support non-EVM chains like Solana and Bitcoin by Q3 2025. The integration of Web3Auth's team into MetaMask is set to reduce technical barriers, facilitating easier blockchain access globally. Dan Finlay, MetaMask's co-founder, emphasized the acquisition's potential to onboard users unfamiliar with self-custodial practices, aligning with industry trends towards seamless user experiences and enhanced multi-chain support.
