A $31 million Bitcoin transfer to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, has been traced back to Alphabay, a notorious dark web marketplace. Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis identified the donation of over 300 BTC as originating from a wallet associated with Alphabay, with the funds likely moved through crypto mixing services like Jambler to obscure their origin. Independent investigator ZachXBT confirmed these findings, highlighting the use of common obfuscation tactics. This incident underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in tracking illicit cryptocurrency transactions, particularly with the increasing use of mixing services to conceal fund origins.
