Venezuelan authorities have shut down an illegal Bitcoin mining operation in the San Vicente industrial area of Maracay, Aragua state, on May 18. The facility housed approximately 4,000 ASIC miners, primarily MicroBT Whatsminer M30S models, and was equipped with an industrial cooling system. Officials reported that the mining farm consumed between 8 to 10 MW of electricity, impacting the national power grid.
This action follows a May 7 announcement by Venezuela's energy department, which reiterated a nationwide ban on Bitcoin mining. The government has been cracking down on unauthorized mining activities due to their significant energy consumption and strain on the country's electricity infrastructure.
